At Family Twist, we design bespoke holidays for families wanting to travel to Europe and experience its culture.
This is WHAT we do
But when what we do became unfeasible for potentially quite some time, we listened to Simon Sinek and we started with Why! If why we did it was strong enough to drive our team, then maybe we could maintain it and change what we do, at least for a while!
So, let me share our conclusions with you.
WHY do we do what we do?
FAMILIES : TO SHARE
First, we believe that family is important, we believe that it is a very special group in society, and the roots of every human being.
SPECIAL MOMENTS: TO BUILD MEMORIES
We believe that family bonding moments with kids, whatever their ages, create memories that will last forever and will be wonderful experiences that help shape their personality. We believe that holidays or special moments move families out of the day to day routine, and out of the daily morning to evening race. By changing their rhythm, they disconnect and are able to reconnect with the people around them.
CULTURE: TO LEARN AND BECOME AWARE
We believe that today, people need to be aware of the people around them, should they be close or far away. We believe that learning their culture, understanding their history, their arts and their habits, are the best way to understand them. We believe that meeting different cultures help children to be open to the world around them and more conscious about it.
EXPERIENCE: TO STAY FOCUSED AND MAKE MEMORIES
We believe that these cultures can be discovered by listening to someone telling you about it or by experiencing it yourself: cooking their food, painting their masterpieces, dancing their dance. We know for a fact that this is a great way to learn and make memories. Families contact us years later to tell us that they still remember the bread they cooked in Paris!
This is what we believe in, we believe in making culture accessible to families, especially while travelling, giving extra meaning to their travel, and so that travel becomes part of education.
The link between this WHY and WHAT we do today is obvious, but remember, we had to find a new WHAT!
Simon Sinek would tell us to focus on HOW to bring that to life now. But Family Twist in nothing but without the people who make it, so before thinking about HOW, we thought about WHO.
Who are the people behind Family Twist that we want to involve in this project?
FAMILIES
At the heart of Family Twist, of course we have families, our guests, and the most precious thing in this adventure.
FAMILY TWIST TEAM: TO LISTEN TO OUR GUESTS’ WISHES
Then we have us, the team, here to listen to our guests and create their trip of a lifetime.
BEST OF FORM LOCALS: TO SHARE THEIR DESINATIONS
Also part of our team, we have all the people who come into contact with our guests: the guides, the chefs, the magicians, but also the drivers, the hotels… We know them individually and we know their love of families and their locations, as the vast majority of them are locals.
BEST OF TRAVEL ADVISORS: TO KNOW GUESTS
Of course, we then have the travel advisors, who are our link to the families, the people who know them and tell us all about their past travels and their wishes for the ones to come. We know many of them have suffered and are still suffering, working to support their clients with no revenue associated with their effort. So, for all these reasons, having the professional travel community as part of this project was paramount, serving to support and recognise their roles.
Now, HOW do we make the magic happen and maintain it?
EXPERIENCE
Well, first and foremost, the experience, which is at the heart of all our trips, and the range of activities that the family will share. The perfect balance in between me time and family time.
GAMES: TO HAVE FUN
Then the games – parents are often positively surprised by the level of attention the kids have and maintain during an activity, and this is linked to the fact that we talk to them in a way they understand and like. Games have always been part of our methodology.
ATTENTION TO DETAIL: TO CREATE A UNIVERSE
Attention to detail and quality have always been paramount. So many things can happen during a trip that can be unpredictable, so when things can be planned, you can trust me that they are! Aesthetics are also key for us as we work our magic, and kids will dive into our universe to experience all of this
SUSTAINABILITY: TO MAKE IT LAST
Finally, one thing that we have started to work on is sustainability. Longevity and durability are very important to us, not just the actual time that the family will spend at a destination.
